How to write an article about a book you read in

How to write an article about a book you read in

There are two ways we can tell others about a book we've read, one using an abstract, and the other using literary reviews.

As a reader who believes in the importance of the book, you will need both, or at least work on one of the two methods. Therefore, in this article, we will talk about how to prepare a summary for the book, and how to make a review for it.

How to write the abstract

Writing the abstract specifically depends on some successive steps, which you must adhere to while writing the abstract, because reading or listening to the abstract depends on the interconnectedness of these steps, so you will not benefit if you know the end before the introduction, but that may waste the fun of the book for you.

The first step: Put the information about the book and its writer, such as the date of writing, the reasons that prompted the writer to write it, if any.

Second Step: Put a sentence or two to describe the book, such as mentioning something about the main character in the book.

Third Step: Talk about the book by dividing it into parts.

The fourth step: Pay attention to the introduction and conclusion in the case of novels, and the introduction here will come after the second step. As for the conclusion, you can mention what happened at the end of the novel in an interesting way, clarifying the fate of the main character. Sometimes we try to keep the end not mentioned, so that the reader of the summary can later read the work and enjoy it, without burning the novel and its end. Rather, the summary acts as an attraction for him to read the work.

Fifth step: List the sources that the writer relied on in the work, if any.

Mistakes to avoid in writing the abstract

Despite the simplicity of writing an abstract, there are some common mistakes that we sometimes make, among which we will mention in the following points.

1- Lack of impartiality in writing the summary

It is normal for us to have personal opinions in books, but this should not appear in the summary, because it is a means used to present the idea of the book without any interference from us, and therefore we always need neutrality.

This does not mean that the reader's right to express his opinion on the work is forfeited. This is a right guaranteed to him for sure, but it occurs in literary reviews not in the abstract.

2- View your personal view

This error is similar to the first error. When we transfer the writer's ideas, we may talk about mentioning our personal view of the ideas, but the reader may not be able to differentiate between them, so confusion occurs between the writer's ideas and our personal thoughts in the summary. Later on, it might even be treated as the author's alone, which is something we don't want to happen at all.

3- Amendment to the information

Sometimes it may happen during reading that we find some information that we think is wrong, and sometimes in the summary some information may be conveyed, but by mentioning the correct one that he believes. This thing might look good on the surface, but it could cause some problems for the reader. Perhaps the writer intends to mention this information and wants it to reach the reader as it is. Especially if the writer mentioned his sources at the end of the work.

Also, the reader may take the modified information from you and say that its source is the book, which exposes it to error.

The correct thing is to state the information contained in the book as it is, with the sources mentioned if any as mentioned, and in the end we make clear that we think that this information is wrong, and that the correct information is the following, and we put our sources after that.

This way, the reader will be able to search behind this information and see which of you is right.

Literary reviews

One of the important things for us while reading books, which reflects how we feel about the book we have read, is writing a literary review of it that conveys everything inside us to others.

Certainly there are reasons for writing these reviews, and how we rely on certain writing.

Why and how do we write literary reviews for books?

Not advice in writing, as in love, in principle, but experience.

I think that we write at the outset with one of two feelings, either excessive love or intense hatred, which is for my life from the wonders and oddities of writing, that these two contradictory feelings are equal. Either you love a work very much, and you like to write about it, as a kind of return to the favor of writing itself and the pleasure that is You felt it and the writer who brought you to this situation, and you are seeking to deconstruct the work to reach its aesthetics, regardless of what you will talk about in a theoretical book or a literary, historical or social work.

It is assumed that you display those aesthetic aspects that attracted your attention more, in literary works it is recommended that you do not tell or burn the events of the work a story, novel or play, but talk about the description of characters, the ability of photography, linguistic use, the transition between time and place, writing techniques, and so on. Of the mechanisms used by the writer and he succeeds in communicating them to the reader or fails!

In hate as well, you are motivated to explain the reasons for your hatred, your extreme anger at the way of writing and the shallowness of ideas, for example, or the illogicality of events, and other matters and factors affecting your receiving the work, and in both cases you would like to present your point of view, so you resort to deconstructing the work again to clarify the citizen The mistake in it, or what you see, the writer did not claim the right thing in it.

In literary works, we resort to our own taste, and we must know - with certainty - that there is no place here for right or wrong, and it is very likely that what you liked does not like others, and what you saw in it is a charming literary work that others see as a bad work. Reading and plurality of opinions teach you the understanding of the difference that we miss A lot, that which raises awareness and knowledge, and contributes greatly to building healthy societies that accept and respect the different.

Essay training

Training idea: It is an activity or group of activities that a person performs when he finishes reading the article, and it is based on the person's desire to learn, so he performs the activity on his own at home to make sure that the article is properly understood.

1- Think about a novel or book you liked, then prepare a summary and literary review of it.

2- Think of a novel or book that you did not like, then prepare a summary and literary review of it.

3- Compare the results you got from 1, 2.

4- Apply the writing of the summary and the literary review to a book once, and to a novel again, and notice the difference between them.

Never stop writing, especially if you like the work, try to re- read it to explore its aesthetics, get used to identifying the parts and influential passages that explain an idea or clearly reflect something from the spirit of the work, you will find that often. Assume questions on the text after you finish reading it What does he want? What did he do? Why? Did he succeed in getting his message across? What could be that message? Did he do it superficial and direct, or did it come with transparency and intelligence?

Talk to your friends about work, and read what others have written, all of this is useful and fruitful, little by little friends are formed to read, guides at times and guides to goodness, benefit and benefit from them, do not be condescending to anyone and do not impose your opinion or slander from the opinions of others, try to tolerate as much as possible with The different views differed.

Don't forget at first that there is no writing advice, but an experience.
