In year 1974 there was a ceremony celebrating the remodeling of the Arecibo radio telescope in Puerto Rico and scientists decided in celebration of this ceremony to send the first human signal to the space. The signal was sent in a frequency of 2380 MHZ in binary code consisting of 210 bytes. of course the message is not colored in reality but scientists agreed to color it for better demonstration to us, the humans. The target star was the globular star cluster m13 which lies 25,000 light years far from earth.
The message contains 7 lines or segments, each one of these segments describes something about the human life: 1- The numbers one (1) to ten (10) (white) 2- The atomic numbers of the elements hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and phosphorus, which make up deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) (purple) 3- The formulas for the sugars and bases in the nucleotides of DNA (green) 4- The number of nucleotides in DNA, and a graphic of the double helix structure of DNA (white & blue) 5- A graphic figure of a human, the dimension (physical height) of an average man, and the human population of Earth (red, blue/white, & white respectively) 6- A graphic of the Solar System indicating which of the planets the message is coming from (yellow) 7- A graphic of the Arecibo radio telescope and the dimension (the physical diameter) of the transmitting antenna dish (purple, white, & blue)
For those who are full of optimist I'm really sorry to disappoint you unless you are planning to live for another 50,000 years. Supposing there is an alien life in the cluster m13, the message will take approximately 25,000 years to reach there and another 25,000 years to get an answer back so we will not be getting an answer in the near future. So what was the purpose of that message? The main purpose of the Arecibo message was not to communicate with extra terrestrial life other than celebrating the opening of the new Arecibo telescope and proving to ourselves that we are capable of sending such message. It was more like a memorial message rather than a realistic attempt, however if it happens that the message reaches the wrong alien civilization with some invasion intentions you can feel safe at least for some time!.
